“Prov 31:10 ‘who can find a virtuous woman..’ The ? ‘who can find’ suggests she is rare. Rare items are ALWAYS more valuable. #Imararefind”
This simple sentence served as my Facebook status yesterday. Sometime throughout the day it sparked a little bit of “inbox chatter” regarding the possible reason(s) why I’m not a Mrs.
When you’re unmarried at my age, EVERYONE and their blind uncle is trying to figure out what’s the “story.” Some will even concoct a story for you. Single sisters you KNOW what I’m talking about, right? That’s a subject for a whole different post.
Anyhoo, in the midst of this friendly email conversation (because inquiring minds do want to know why I’m not a Mrs.), the following verse of scripture just seemed to pop into my head.
Matthew 13:44 NASB – “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Do you remember that pair of jeans you found that were just right for you? You know, kinda like the ones I wrote about in this post last New Years Day. Or maybe it was a pair of shoes. Yeah, you’re reminiscing now. 🙂 You didn’t have the right amount of money to get them at that particular time, so what did you do? You “inadvertently” (umm hmmm) hung those jeans back on the wrong rack, or you turned that shoe box around so the size wasn’t visible to passers-by. And then you prayyyyed that whatever it was – jeans or shoes – would be there when you returned to claim it. Now you may not have sold all you had for them, but you were going back for your treasure.
Obviously our material things are no comparison to the Kingdom of Heaven, but you get where I’m going.
This man sold all he had, because he had found a treasure that valuable.
I kept reading this one simple verse over and over again. I thought to myself, “Yes, Lord! By all means, the Kingdom of God is that valuable, but what does that have to do with why I’m not a MRS.?!?!” lol…
Then He showed me. Do you know what else is that valuable? Well, in this case it’s a “who else”. You are! I am! I tell you, I’ve sold it all and given it all away just to lay claim to the valuable treasure that is ME, and what a process it’s been!
To lose everything, or to give it all away, may sometimes be a bit sentimental or even downright painful. However, prior to prior to ever becoming a Mrs, it was imperative that I first learn two valuable lessons:
- I must be completely convinced that I am a most valuable treasure to God, my heavenly Father. After all, He gave all He had, His son Jesus Christ, just for me.
- I must become that valuable to myself.
It’s imperative that I accomplish these two before I will ever be viewed as a treasure worth coming back for (or not letting go) to anyone else.
My Twitter and Facebook (including Full Circle Women’s Fellowship) statuses from today read:
When you don’t know how much you’re worth, people will treat you according to how much they’re willing to spend. Know your value!
If you’re wondering if that’s really true, contact me, and I can tell you some stories. I didn’t know that before, and THAT (for anyone else out there who may be a wee bit curious) is most likely why I’m not a Mrs….YET. Many a woman has walked into matrimony without knowing her worth, and the tales of her growing pains are often enough to make a grown man cry. Believe me! I hear them all the time!!
“…and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field”
I sold it all. I bought the “field,” ladies. I have the treasure. I’m worth far more than rubies or jewels. And now, maybe becoming a Mrs. is not too far off. Maybe… We’ll see what the Lord has to say about that.
Wise, Virtuous, Valuable,
Love your conversational style and the insights the Lord has shared with you. Definitely can relate.
