“He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who eats, does so for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God…” ~ Romans 14:6a
Depending on which translation you read, the word “thanks” can be found 110 times in 108 verses of the bible. The word “thanksgiving” can be found 28 times in 27 verses of the bible. Again, this depends on what translation of the bible you read.
Translations aside, the point is that giving thanks is an important, dare I say critical, component of our relationship with God.
My message today is simple. As you observe this day, observe it for the Lord. As you sit before your meal – be it turkey and dressing, pizza and wings, or some miracle reminiscent of two fish and five loaves of bread – give thanks to God. For He is the One who provides for us all. Then, before the day takes a bow and your eyelids follow suit, find a few moments (snatch them if you have to) to peruse some of the many scriptures about giving thanks. Incorporate a few verses into your personal prayer of thanksgiving.
Do this today and every day.
I pray you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
